The Karnataka government has announced a 10% increase in undergraduate medical course fees for private colleges for the 2024-25 academic year. This decision was made during a meeting with private medical college managements on August 17, 2024, and is aimed at addressing the rising operational costs faced by these institutions.
Under the new fee structure, the fees for government quota seats in private medical colleges will increase to ₹1,40,621, while the fees for private seats will rise to ₹11,88,161. This marks a significant increase from the previous academic year's fees, where government quota seats were charged ₹1,28,746, and private seats were priced at ₹9,94,906.
Initially, private college representatives had requested a fee hike of 15-20%, but the government settled on a 10% increase to balance the colleges' demands with concerns about affordability.
Notably, this fee adjustment applies only to private medical colleges, while fees for government medical colleges remain unchanged at ₹50,000 per year. Last year, the government had only allowed a 10% fee increase for minority medical colleges, rejecting higher hikes for other institutions.
